This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are the middle school population (grades 6th, 7th, and 8th) at a K-8 school in Baltimore. Although very curious and eager to learn, my classroom lacks the materials necessary (textbooks, printer paper, etc) to allow for core knowledge of social studies to be a reality.
In addition, many of my students are below grade level in informational text reading, which is an essential skill for not only success in social studies, but also in being college and career ready.
One of my main tasks is to elevate student reading levels in informational text. History and geography are so driven by text that having the ability to print off primary and secondary sources for my students to read, annotate, and otherwise analyze becomes essential. It is with sincerity then that I am requesting the funds to purchase laser printer paper for my classroom so that I do not become a strain on the limited supply that my school is able to procure.
My school does not have the necessary funding in order to keep up with the demand of printer paper, therefore in an effort to help get the proper materials in my students' hands, I would like to start the school year with a small supply of my own printer paper. In addition, because my students are required to use a binder for their notebook, it is essential that I have a 3-hole punch available. My old one finally broke toward the end of last school year, so I need a new one. Finally, the sharpener will enable my students to have a healthy supply of usable writing utensils on hand.
I am therefore asking the Donor's Choose community for your continued support to acquire the needed paper, hole punch, and sharpener so that my students get what they need to be successful.
