Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The resource room is a place for students to come in and request support in any area they struggle in, both academically and personally. Students who enter the classroom have disabilities and are in need of additional supports that enables them to learn and be successful in school. Due to COVID-19, our physical classroom, which was a safe place for our students, is now unavailable. We went virtual for one year and this broadened inequities for our students. We will be returning in fall 2021!

The students I teach are a part of the special education program at our school and the resources needed will benefit students with disabilities.

Last year, when we entered the virtual world through teaching, our students persevered as best they could. The resilience in my students was showcased when they continued to show up via a screen to learn, create and simply socialize within our virtual classroom. This is what has inspired me to further create an online learning experience that not only hopes to support all of their needs but also focuses on reshaping a virtual world that enhances those supports we have in place.

My Project

We will be returning to in-person school in the fall after one full year of distance learning. The materials listed in this project will be useful for students to use within the in-person setting.

All of the supplies will be used by students every day!

Calculators for when we work on math subjects, markers for when we work on club posters, and binders with paper for when they travel between classes. Plus cleaning materials for the time in between, when we need to do a little cleaning up, per new protocols.

With all of these supplies, students will return to a welcoming environment with everything they need to be successful.
