Welcome Back Supporting Families Social-Emotional First Day Jitters

Help me give my students and their families a warm welcome back to in-person learning. I am requesting helium tanks, banners, balloons, pencils, and welcome back signs to encourage the school spirit and make school a cheerful place!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is composed of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as autism.

A typical day in my classroom looks active.

My students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their peers, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in my classroom. My students are learning through hands-on experiences.

I teach in a Title I school.

My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful, and full of excitement!

My students are 9 and 10-year children that love coming to school. When school was closed in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic not only were the kids wanting to come back but we missed seeing their smiling faces every day.

My Project

Oh my, what a dream it will be if we can have this project funded for our classroom to support our school, community, and parents. In September ALL students are expected to come back to in-person instruction. Students whom have not stepped to in-person learning for more than one year will be expected to come into school to learn. I want to make this experience memorable for both parents and students. Students are going to be afraid and scared because they are not used to this routine. With your help, my students are going to be able to come into school welcomed by colorful banners, balloons, teachers with pompoms, and goodies such as pencils and photobooths. With your help, I can make this possible and helping my students not be stressed on their first day of school. My goal is to support students' and families' mental health and well-being during this challenging time. As we make the transition from distance learning back into the classroom, teachers like myself are facing a whole new set of challenges related to students' social and emotional well-being and mental health. With this amazing celebration on the first day, we can create a school culture that's inclusive, fosters personal and academic growth, and encourages positive social behavior. Please help us get the materials we need to support my student's and families' social-emotional well-being.
