Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are my inspiration. My kindergarten classroom consists of 25 children from all different backgrounds. I have a large percent of beginner English language learners. The rest of my class consists of students with special needs and general education students.

My students are funny, energetic, creative, frustrated, shy, silly, curious, but most of all resilient.

All the diversity makes for a great teaching experience, but it also makes it difficult to meet the various needs of the students in my classroom.

Every morning I start fresh and do my best to reach the needs, whatever they may be, of each child. My school has a very large population of low, socio-economic students. My school is a Title I school. Many of the children live in shelters and live in large multi-generational households. It would be awesome to give all these children the opportunity to meet their optimal potential.

My Project

Please help me give my students a variety of literacy centers to support early reading skills. It is important to have a vast variety of centers and games. Centers such as the Snap and Build Sight Word Set, Touch and Read Word Match, and the Alphabet Picture Magnets are just a few of the centers that can reach students of different reading stages/levels.

Having an ample supply of literacy centers will allow my students to work in partnerships and allows me to provide a sufficient amount of differentiation throughout the activities and games.

Literacy centers help support and reinforce what kindergarten children are learning during reading workshop and in word study. Centers like the Twist and Turn a Word, Change a Sound Flip Books, and The Alphabet Mystery Box games will keep the students engaged and excited about learning to read and write.

Children learn best when they are having fun and are happy to be in school. Literacy Centers are a perfect way to accomplish these goals.
