WEIS 7th-Grade ELA Library

Help me give my students a library. They are living in poverty and every student is reading far before grade level. If I can open the world of books to them, they may overcome many learning obstacles.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Leibforth's classroom raised $1,098

My Project

Aloha from Waimanalo on the east side of Oahu, where the native children have the most beautiful beach and mountainside I have ever seen, but where most families are divided, unhoused, living in poverty and running a little low on hope. I want my bright 7th-grade students to have the opportunity to love books and improve their language skills. They are testing at a 3rd-4th grade reading level because they haven't had the opportunity to learn to love language, nor experience the different worlds that books can open up for them. I believe that, with books at their fingertips, and a cozy, safe and comfortable space in which to enjoy them, they will improve their performance in all of their classes and feel more hopeful and empowered to move on to high school--and maybe even college for some. Your donation could potentially change their perception of English as a subject and launch them on a new educational trajectory. Great readers are better at Math, History and Science, too. We want to make a reading corner in our room--one so inviting that books will seem more interesting than TikTok! Help us get a rug, a couple of bean bag chairs, a bookcase and some reading material that will invite them into a bigger world.
