Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom is full of vibrant, energetic, autistic, nonverbal students. Autism is a disorder that is characterized by difficulties in social interaction, verbal, and nonverbal communication, as well as repetitive or restricted behaviors. Every student in my classroom is a unique individual, each with his or her own strengths, challenges, and perspectives. My students bring a fresh and unique way of seeing the world. They are eager learners, passionate about their interests, and resilient in the face of challenges. With the right tools and support, my students can achieve anything they set their minds to.
My students need weighted tools that will provide deep pressure stimulation to their bodies, which can help them deal with sensory issues to better regulate their emotions and behaviors.
Weighted tools can also help my students stay focused and calm throughout the day. This will help them work on their academic, social, emotional, occupational, and physical goals.
Everyone experiences the world differently. Calming books that explore sensory differences will help my students find the language they need to express how they are feeling. These books would also help my students to understand themselves more easily.
Weighted tools and calming books can be useful for students with sensory processing issues and autism. They can help my students improve attention and focus, reduce anxiety and stress, and promote a sense of calm, relaxation, and understanding.
