Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title 1 Middle School and serve a diverse student population.
We have students in group homes, those with special needs, kids with mental and physical challenges, as well as those with high IQ's.
Our students excel in our business and entrepreneurial programs, performing arts, STEAM, teen court, athletics, and many other intentionally formed groups and clubs.
Our special education department is thriving, and offer so many diverse options and programs to meet the needs of our students.
My Project
Everyone wrestles with occasional worry and stress, but in recent years, anxiety has taken hold of our society in epidemic proportions.
We have noticed an increase in anxiety among our students with what they are exposed to at home, school, and in their social lives.
Many of which are either in temporary living conditions, intensive therapy, or just experiencing this gripping fear for the first time.
We are using old folded blankets in stacks to apply to students bodies to help calm them, but they are less than ideal. It would be AMAZING if we could have a couple of weighted blankets on hand at all times for these crisis situations. They can be costly, and as a public school, we simply cannot afford them.
