My students need a trimmer and a tiller to prepare our garden for the upcoming growing year. We are also in need of supplies such as fertilizer, Neem oil, and garden fabric.

My Students

"We grew this!" These were the words a student exclaimed last year when he picked a summer squash out of our school garden. Seeing the excitement that my 5th-grade students showed about growing fruits and vegetables and eating what they grew was thrilling as a teacher.

Our school is comprised of 773 students and serves children in Pre-k through 5th grade.

We have 157 students who are in the ESE program with 40 of those students being in a self-contained classroom. Our school is in a rural area with 29% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

This will be the third year of our garden club at our elementary school! The first two years were a huge success and I am sure our third year will be even better! Last year we grew tomatoes, broccoli, strawberries, and various salad greens to name a few. We've also expanded a landscaped area by planting shrubs, trees and ground covers.

To expand our program, we are in need of the following items to make the 2018-2019 growing season an educational and fun experience for our students.

We are hoping for a trimmer and a tiller attachment to make our garden pretty and the soil ideal for our upcoming crops. We are also hoping to acquire fertilizer, Perlite, and Neem Oil to keep our plants looking their best! Finally, we will need some new barrier fabric and staples to keep our garden rows tidy and to keep those pesky weeds away!

With your help, students in our elementary garden club will experience the joy of growing their own food that contributes to good nutrition.
