Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a transitional kindergarten/kindergarten teacher in a general education class of 25 students. I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning the curriculum and core concepts.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and a lack of funding requires that teachers spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.

My students are enthusiastic learners who deserve the best education and materials to support their learning. This year my I have a very unique class in that half of my students are children with disabilities and/or are transitional kindergarteners.

My Project

Creating meaningful homework for young children can be challenging. In kindergarten, parents and older siblings often times need to help my students complete their paper and pencil homework that I send home. Although this is one way to practice specific skills, engaging with hands-on materials can be a more beneficial for mastering concepts, as well as more fun! However, not every family has the ability to provide their child with these types of experiences. This set of backpacks comes with books, journals, and other hands-on materials to learn alphabet recognition and rhyming, shapes, numbers, and other math concepts, and a whole lot more. They are organized and easily portable for the children to take a complete theme home for the night.

My hope is that these Take-Home Learning Backpacks will motivate my students to continue to practice the skills they need to be prepared for first grade.

I love the idea of involving the entire family in homework and I believe these packs will have something fun for everyone! Thank you for your support and consideration. With your generosity, my students will learn to LOVE homework!
