Did you like listening to stories when you were young? I definitely did, and so do my students.
My students are amazing.
They are this incredible mix of personalities that have come together and learned to support each other. Some are general education students, some are students with special needs, some are just starting to learn English. They are all different with different needs, but every single child in my classroom wants to become a better reader.
My Project
I would like to start a listening center in my classroom! I am requesting four individual CD players for students to listen to books on CDs. We also need rechargeable batteries and a charger to keep the CD players running.
The second step to the listening center is to get copies of books with CDs. I have requested high-interest books with CDs, like some Dr. Seuss books and some from the "Arthur" series. I am also requesting two packages ("Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and "Chrysanthemum") that include CDs with multiple copies of the books. My students would be really excited to listen as they great stories are read to them.
Together these materials would allow my students to select books that interest them and read-along as the they listen to the story on a CD.
This would be a wonderful experience for my students to be able to hear words spoken as they follow along with the text.
