My Students

My students are a diverse group of children who come from many different backgrounds. Some of my students come to school speaking no English at all, some come to school hungry each day, but most come to school with a thirst for learning. My Kindergarten students enter school with various levels of knowledge. Some may not be able to write or even read their name, while others can already recognize all of the letters of the alphabet or even read words. I enjoy bettering myself as a teacher and learning new strategies in order to differentiate my instruction to meet all of the needs of my students. Many students in our school come from supportive and involved families but many families are going through hard times and are not always able to provide their children with the support they may need. It is my goal as their teacher to provide all students with the support they need to learn and grow, no matter their background. My students are a diverse group of children who come from many different backgrounds.

My Project

This school year is the first year that I have decided to implement flexible seating in my kindergarten classroom. I started out the year with several flexible seating options, some of which are now popped, broken, etc. As sad as it is that some materials are broken, it just goes to show that the students get plenty of use out of them! My class could use some new durable, high-quality materials that will last for years to come.

I would like to provide my students with the opportunity to pick a new seat, every single day!

Providing a variety of options such as inflatable balls and donut seats, wobbly stools and comfy floor seats will allow for these five and six-year-olds to be a little more free in their learning. They are not stuck with the only option of an uncomfortable chair and desk, instead,​ they are able to wiggle and stretch out which will help to keep them more comfortable and engaged in their learning.
