My Students
Third graders seeking adventure through one "TERRIFIC" tale of a curious girl, a lovable pig and an unforgettable spider.
Our class is a third grade inclusion class in a Title 1 school.
They have been raised in low social economic homes where books are a luxury most cannot afford. All of my students are hard-workers with a desire to learn. About half of them have been retained in third grade or in previous years and need all of the resources and support they can get to improve their reading skills. Since August, they have made tremendous strides in setting and achieving their academic goals and have developed a passion for reading and discussing quality literature.
My Project
Through the use of individual copies of Charlotte's Web, the students will be able to read along with one another, with their teacher, or share the exciting story with their families. Having their own copy will also instill a since of ownership and allow them the opportunity to read at their own pace or reread to practice essential reading strategies. We will also be able to use the individual copies as reference for quality literature circle activities and discussions.
My students will be able to experience quality literature through a story that has been adored for generations.
Reading Charlotte's Web on their own will increase their reading independence, comprehension and fluency.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
