Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is a math, science, and technology magnet that works hard to also provide our students instruction in the arts. One oft-forgotten art form is textile art. It is a definite change from visual arts and allows for the development of different skills.
These simple but durable looms will replace our paper plate looms and enable my students to create rich tapestries, connecting the artistry of Native Americans with the industries of colonial America.
The earth-tone yarn will help them design something inspired by the world around them. They will learn the difference between the warp and weft strings, explore color theory, and weave their designs into finished wall hangings--works to be displayed with pride.
More than half of students from low‑income households
