This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an EL teacher at a Title I school. I am leading a group called PEP (Parents as Educational Partners). PEP is for any parent whose language is other than English, even if his/her child is not an EL student. Our goal is to develop and maintain strong school-home partnerships tied to improving student achievement. Our PEP program provides families with information on the following topics: the US School System, School Personnel, Report Cards, Conferences, School and Health Procedures, Testing, Technology, Family Engagement, Study Skills, Reading at Home, and Homework.

Our parents are often working two jobs to make ends meet and must make difficult choices, providing only necessities for their families.

Many of our families do not have basic supplies to help them weather the winter months. Many of our students do not own simple luxuries like chapstick and lotion. Our families want to help their children excel at school, but it can be difficult to concentrate when your lips are cracked and chapped and your skin is dry and itchy. Household necessities like laundry detergent, soap, deodrant, and shampoo can be expensive. Help me give my families hygiene products to provide dignity and confidence. By donating to this project, you will help to improve the lives of our families.
