My Students

Edwin Powell Hubble once said, "Man explores the world around him and calls the adventure, science." Many of my students have never conducted a scientific investigation and collected their own data. I want to be able to give them the opportunity to experience the adventure of science!

I teach science to sixth graders in a South Carolina public school.

It is my honor and privilege to teach these students. They are great group of learners representing virtually every ethnicity. They come from many different backgrounds, and many of them live in poverty. The academic diversity of these students spans from learning disabled to gifted and talented. These students deserve the very best science education possible.

My Project

I am requesting one set of Sling Psychrometers, one Psychrometer Organic Liquid Filled Sling, one Weather Center Set, one Ezread Rain Gauge, and one Anemometer and Thermometer In/Outdoor Dual Scale. With these materials my students will be able to set up a school weather observation station on school grounds. Students will learn how to use the tools to collect data and how to read the instruments accurately. They will be able to collect data daily and use it to detect patterns and make weather forecasts.

Reading about the data that someone else has collected is never as meaningful as when you actually measure the data.

My students deserve the opportunity to put their hands on actual weather data collection tools and use these tools to collect data about the weather in their own area. Won't you consider helping to make this dream into a reality for my students?
