Weather Should Not Keep Kids With Special Needs From Learning

My Students

I teach an amazing bunch of students with special needs with a wide range of support needs. We are a community located in the heart of a blue-collar neighborhood in a large, urban area in Indiana. They have amazing hearts and spirits that drive them to overcome whatever life throws at them.

My students are extremely resilient and over come the obstacles they face.

You can't help but get excited about life when you are around my students. Their determination and dedication is beyond infectious. They are truly some of the toughest and determined people I know.

My Project

There is an old saying in Indiana that if you don't like the weather wait 10 mins for it to change. Just last week, we had a day where we woke up to 20 degrees and frost meaning you needed gloves, hat, and a coat to go to school. Then by the time we left school it was 64 degrees and all you needed was a light coat.

For many of our students this creates a huge problem.

Your ability to be warm, dry, or both should not determine if you come to school or go out in the community. This is why I am asking for your help with these gloves, hats, warmers, chap stick, and umbrellas. Please help provide some of the basic weather defenses so that all student s can have access to their education.
