My students need bulletin boards, weather tools, games, and DVDs to see that science uses knowledge of the earth to provide ways to predict weather patterns.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A thousand years ago, the weatherman would have been revered and feared! His knowledge of the skies was truly arcane and unknowable. How on Earth can I get my students to understand such mystical ideas?!
My students are low income students from an urban environment.
The vast majority of students in my class are on free or reduced lunches. Many of my kids have rarely left our school's neighborhood. So together, students and teacher, we build scientific experiences day by day, week by week.
My Project
The goal of this project is to demystify the Earth on an atmospheric level. I am requesting various tools for demonstrating the different ways that scientists monitor the weather. Students will begin tracking the weather in various ways, one major way being by taking measurements on their own with the materials listed in this project.
We can understand the earth and its processes.
It is fundamentally important for kids to recognize the patterns that exist in the atmosphere and how they affect us on a daily basis. Most of all, the importance of this project lies in the experience that it gives the children. We take the take the child off of the Earth and we put the Earth in the child. Does that make sense?
