This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My English Language Arts 8th graders are special education students. They also live in a low income NYC area, where they are surrounded by depression, drugs, gangs, etc.
Most of my students have never been to a public library and do not like to read, so by stocking my classroom library with a class set of "Jumped", I can expand their knowledge and love of books.
Finding interesting topics and story lines to immerse themselves in, I feel will increase their chance of reading all the time.
My Project
With these books, I can teach them plot, action, dialog, and character traits through class read alouds and accompanying activities. By using these high interest low level novels I feel that my students will absorb the knowledge that is important to be a great reader and better student.
By making this thoughtful and gracious donation, you will be feeding the minds as well as building confidence with my special needs students by proving that reading builds knowledge and they can do anything they put their minds to.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
