My students need 2 ebook readers and cases to expand reading during the instruction so that they will have more access to books during their independent reading time.
Have you ever felt that you would never like to read a book but your friend shares his/her love for books? Today, reading with a paper book is not only the way to read - there are many different media. I would like to promote reading through these so students will get hooked on reading! eBook it is!
The students at my inner-city elementary school have diverse ethnicities, cultural values, and home languages.
Our students and our school are proud of this diversity; it is celebrated throughout the year through assemblies, school gatherings, and community events. Despite the economic shortcomings of our district and state, our students are joyful learners, making the most out of the resources that they get.
My Project
The challenge as an educator is the ability to meet the needs of every student. In first grade there's a wide range of ability levels, but through the use of this technology we can begin to bridge the achievement gap. For many students the only exposure they have to technology is at school. My students need 2 ebook readers to expand reading during the instruction so that they will have more access to books during their independent reading time.
These two ebook/tablets will provide positive literacy experience to my students by tapping into their visual, kinetic, and auditory skills.
For any struggle reader, finding a way for him/her to love reading sometimes require "outside of box" ideas of "reading".
For some students, the reading activity could be fun just because paper book became ebook...It is a frame of mind that it is not a "book reading" but it is "something fun to do with this special tablet". And it works for some!
