My Students

I'm a Special Education Science teacher in a high needs NYC public school. I teach varying levels of students, including Special/General Education mixed classes. I need laptops for my pupils.

The children that I encounter on a day-to-day basis are faced with insurmountable obstacles.

Some live in shelters, others have parents who are incarcerated, siblings in gangs, etc. My Special Ed students are academically delayed, physically disabled and emotionally disturbed. Even though they are faced with these obstacles, they are eager and motivated to learn. Often, the students are stressed and frustrated with their environment. My students come to me when they need an outlet for their frustration.

My Project

Teachers are responsible for juggling knowledge of where students are and where they need to go. Incorporating technology into our integrated Science classroom will enable me to meet the students at all learning levels. As we make the shift from teaching just Science in isolation to moving toward STEM education, we are lacking the technology components. The use of technological tools and resources support students as they search for information, design products, and publish results. My classroom is in desperate need of 33 laptops, as well as a security/charging cart to meet the Nationwide technology requirements. As a middle school teacher, I recognize the importance of developing these technological skills in students, so they will be prepared to enter the workforce once they complete their schooling.

By embracing and integrating technology in the classroom, we are setting our students up for a successful life outside of school.
