We Work Hard to Become Readers

Help me give my students what they need to participate in the Wilson Reading System, a research-based intensive phonics program for students who need to be taught phonics in a very explicit and systematic manner.

My Students

My students walk into my classroom each day full of questions and excitement. I am a special education teacher and believe in including my students to the greatest extent possible. My students

with disabilities spend their full day as part of a general education class.

There are a wide variety of abilities in the class, so my co-teachers and I need lots of materials in order to differentiate our instruction so that it is accessible to all students.

My students attend a Title I Chicago Public School in the Rogers Park neighborhood. My students know they need to work extra hard in order to keep up with their peers.

My Project

These materials are part of the Wilson Reading System, a research-based intensive systematic phonics program geared towards students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.

The magnet boards help students see and manipulate each sound of words.

They also help students split words into syllables so they can learn about different kinds of syllable patterns begin to read larger words. The workbooks will give kids the opportunity to practice what they have learned at home, using paper and pencil, which is especially important during this remote learning time.

These students need opportunities to learn vital reading and writing skills now more than ever.
