Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school and many of my students come from families that just cannot afford educational resources such as books or other materials. My students and their families rely on the school to provide a quality education that will ensure their success in the future. My students love learning. They are so enthusiastic about school each day and they soak up everything I teach them like little sponges. Every child in my kindergarten class is reading! They have worked very hard to achieve this goal and I am so very proud of each and every one of them.
Last year, many of the families of my students were affected by Hurricane Harvey.
This year, we started the school year back in our redone classroom. Unfortunately, we discovered around Christmas time that bats had gotten into our school and we soon had an infestation. We had to temporarily relocate to another campus in our district. Due to the bats we lost our entire school library full of books (a loss of thousands of dollars of books). I lost an entire classroom full of books and materials. My students need your help so that they can continue learning.
My Project
Due to Hurricane Harvey many of our books and materials were lost or damaged. Then, bats came into our school, causing us to lose almost everything we had left, including new items our school had just purchased for us.
With your help my students will have new books and learning resources with which to grow and meet their full potential.
It is imperative that young children learn from quality literature-based instruction. My students love story time and they will benefit from hearing stories read aloud every day. The word building sets, the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom set, and the math materials can be used by my students during station time for independent learning.
