This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"WE WILL SUCCEED!" My students are amazing individuals that are reading and writing, and discovering themselves within the process. The majority of them are feeling excitement about reading and writing for the first time ever in their lives. I am so excited to go on this journey with them!

My students are 7th graders that are mostly English language learners.

The majority of them are of Pacific Islander and Hispanic descent. The school is a Title 1 junior high with about 800 students. I have 104 students each day, and my goal is to turn them into avid readers. In the short time I have had this position, I have already been able to turn some children from non-readers to readers...it is an amazing feeling. I have met this challenge head on, and am ready to change some lives!

My Project

My students recently learned about the amazing transformation of some students who were just like them. They were children of poverty, children of gangs, children that have seen people they are close to die due to violence. They are learning that they are intelligent people with a story to tell. "The Freedom Writers Diary" movie has been an inspiration to them, and they would love to have their own copy of the book. I would love to help them achieve that!

The Freedom Writers Diary has already changed the lives of my students.

If they could each have their own copy of the book, they would be able to continue to be inspired by the stories.
