Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are enthusiastic and excited by hands-on learning. They love learning that is authentic and fun. Although many of our students are living in poverty, they come to school every day ready and eager for meaningful learning.
Our students have many hidden superpowers.
Many of them speak multiple languages. In addition, they often have to take on adult responsibilities such as translating for parents or providing care for siblings. Their resilience in the face of adversity and trauma is inspiring to see.
My Project
We just started a MakerSpace at our school and we are hoping to expand even further. We want to provide even more tools for our students to use to make their creams a reality.
We have discovered that our students love to design and build to show what they know.
Their young minds have come alive to the fact that they are creators, builders, and doers. They are not simply sponges that absorb knowledge. They are the future and we want the future to actively solve problems.
We want to add glue guns, cardboard rivets, duct tape, and more to the mix to give them even more flexibility in working with upcycled materials as they solve problems and share their knowledge in meaningful ways.
