My kindergarten classroom consists of 24 five- and six-year-olds. We have a balanced number of boys and girls. Due to a high rate of poverty in the community, many students come in with no pre-kindergarten skills such as holding pencils, crayons, or scissors. We start from scratch. We have four students who are included in our class from the special education classroom. They all enjoy learning with one another during centers. Our classroom community is very strong, and their compassion for one another is wonderful!
These materials will create the stepping stones needed to reach ALL levels of readers during guided reading and independent center time. Students that are struggling will use the unifix cubes to create words and word families. Leveled books A-D will help students begin exactly where they need and build on their reading skills. The books are thoroughly researched and contain sight words and sentences that strengthen their reading fluency and can be used to practice reading comprehension and vocabulary, which are key aspects in being a strong reader. We appreciate any help that can be given to help them become great readers!
