We are located in an extremely overcrowded elementary school in New York. We work very hard and appreciate learning through laughter, fun, and play. It is a long school day when all we do is sit in our seats and work.
You often hear an explosion of laughter coming from my classroom.
A second grade is an awesome place for any child to be. I am a second-grade teacher for a very eager and excitable group of children. I am truly a lucky teacher.
My Project
I am a second grade teacher in a Title I school. Recently, to my shock, I discovered that the series, Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot actually is educationally sound reading material. I couldn't believe that Ricky Ricotta actually taught children grammar lessons as they read. This news truly excites the teacher in me. I know my class of struggling readers, not only will read this book, not only enjoy this book, but will also learn from this book. We will be able to correct the grammar in the comic sections of the book. Actually doing this is fun and my students will become the grammar police.
Ricky Ricotta also teaches how to handle bullies in school, a lesson everyone could benefit learning.
My students will benefit greatly if this proposal is funded. They will learn that reading is not a chore, it is in reality extremely entertaining. Perhaps, with luck, they will discover reading can be even more entertaining then television.
