My Students

Our students are so excited to begin learning how to play the guitar in music class! Because of the generosity of parents, teachers, families, and friends we now how a full classroom set of 3/4 size classical guitars in our class. We now need help to be able to READ our guitar music!

Our students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and cultures.

However diverse we are, we are a TEAM working together to become better learners in every area of our studies - including music and the arts. For many of our students, English is a new language. Through the universal language of music these students can taste success through effort and hard work. They want to be able to READ music so that the skills they acquire in their elementary school guitar program can be used not only in middle, high school, (and college!) ensembles, but also in a lifetime of enrichment that can be found in the love and joy of playing a musical instrument.

My Project

We are very fortunate to have a supportive team of parents, families, teachers, friends, and families who have generously donated a classroom set of 3/4 size classical guitars to our classroom. Along with the instruments themselves, music stands are crucial in order for our students to learn to READ music for the guitar. Students will also to acquire note-reading skills that are absolutely necessary for them to retain what they learn on the guitar. These note-reading skills will be applied to the kind of music study that will be available to them in middle school, high school, college, and all throughout their lifetimes.

Music cannot be read from the floor.

Reading music projected on a screen can be a serious strain on the eyes and can promote poor posture as the student strains to see the small notes from across a classroom. Although it may not be the most exciting item to help provide, it is as crucial to their success as the guitars themselves, and we need these music stands very badly in order to succeed.
