We Want to Play, We Want to Play!!!

Help me give my students their own play bins so that they can learn safely through play.

My Students

Our school is located on the big island of Hawaiʻi in the little town of Pāhoa. We are a part of a low-income, high poverty community where all of our students are offered free breakfast and lunch. My kindergarten students have survived through a major tropical storm and two lava flows that displaced some families or even took their homes. Last year they spent half of their school year learning on-line due to COVID and although they were welcomed back twice a week, social distancing still kept them apart.

This school year we are going to strive no matter what!

I anticipate to have a class of 20 students that will comprise of English Language Learners, General Education Learners, and possibly Special Need Learners. As of now, ALL students will return for in-class learning.

My Project

We all know that kindergarten students learn best through play, but how are they suppose to play when sharing supplies is out of the question due to the deadly COVID virus? My classroom have always been group based where students share learning tools and move freely within our class throughout the day, but those days are now far and gone.

In order to allow my students to play safely, everyone needs their own designated play bins.

Organization bins for each student will allow them to stimulate their little minds through play and keep them safe from the deadly COVID virus. My students who are new to kindergarten will be able to adjust to school as they partake in fun bin activities while my upcoming pre-schoolers will be able to readjust to being back in the classroom setting.
