My students need personal CD players in order to use our audio-books to the fullest.

My Students
Students in my class work with a three part program to improve their reading skills. Each student rotates between software, independent reading, and small group stations.
All of my students are 5th and 6th graders who have been identified as reading way below grade level.
The deficit ranges from one grade level below to four or more grade levels below. They are in my class to work with the Read 180/System 44 program to bring them up to grade level. Most of my students are very motivated to improve their reading skills and get to grade level by the end of the school year. Our student population includes many low income families.
My Project
The program that my student use includes audio-books. They have been unable to use them appropriately due to lack of equipment. The computers we have in the room are needed for the software component of the program and are not available for use with the audio-books. Personal CD players will allow the students to stay in the independent reading area where they can sit comfortably on the beanbags and rug, while using the audio-books to increase fluency with great books.
The donations of personal CD players will improve my classroom by allowing the students to use previously unused resources in their reading program.
The audio-books will assist students with fluency and comprehension skills. Students will be able to become more confident in their reading.
