This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's hard to learn to program without access to a computer. I'm looking to disrupt that current reality for my kids.
My students seek opportunities to learn about computer science, robotics, app development, etc.
This summer, 13 of them (and counting) will participate in some of the Bay Area's most prestigious computer science summer programs including Girls Who Code and Girl Code at Stanford. In the fall, even more students will join them for AP CS. These students are creative and brilliant. They represent a voice rarely heard in tech today. By giving them a computer, they will likely change the landscape of the tech sector.
My Project
The computers that I am requesting will go into a loaning library for AP CS students this summer and the coming year. This is to ensure that students will be able to practice their programming inside and outside of class time. As of now, I have only enough computers for 7 of my students to take them home. I need at least 8 more -- every little bit counts.
Having access to a computer at school and at home will make my students more competitive AP students, not to mention allow them to hone and practice their skills as they prepare for college.
Most of my students intend on majoring in a STEM-related field. To ensure that their technical literacy is on par with what is expected of students entering those fields of study, I want to make sure that they have increased access to technology.
