Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I service students from kindergarten through 5th grade. They are all English Language Learners. Many of them are recent arrivals and need a lot of support for their learning. They are also economically disadvantaged and thus can't provide school supplies or essential materials needed for their learning. My students are amazing and have amazing potential. My goal is to help them reach their highest potential. But there is a scarcity of materials, especially electronic items as they are expensive and the school can't fund them.
My Project
The English Language Learners need a lot of assistance in developing their reading and listening skills. There are plenty of educational websites that can help them tremendously in building those skills. We need Chromebooks, so that my students can use them to access websites created for English Language Learners to build their language skills.
My students will use the Chromebooks to access online interactive programs, such as starfalls, Eslbee, Englishpage and plenty of other online resources to build their language skills, such as letter/sound recognition, fluency, comprehension, listening, reading and writing skills, communication skills and also use the Chromebooks as tools to research unfamiliar topics.
They can listen to reading passages or even music, and be able to play them over and over to develop their listening skills, pronunciation as well as comprehension. Students can also access various reading websites and practice reading. I would also be able to assign student to specific reading websites where they can practice reading and answer comprehension questions. Furthermore, I would be able to track their progress online. I use smart board to show visuals and make lessons interactive, such as bringing students to the smart board or even taking a leadership role in presenting their writing or thoughts. They can use the Chromebooks for the same purpose. They can work in a small group to complete their assigned tasks using the online dictionaries and many other resources. The Chromebooks will also help them to do research on various topics and get familiar with the new culture they're trying to adapt to.
I appreciate all donations and know that you're making a big difference!
