Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We learn by doing. Some of our most memorable school moments are those that involved rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty.
My students are 5th grade students with various learning disabilities that are preparing to take the New York state Social Studies test.
They have difficulty reading, remembering and processing information from books. Daily lessons have to be supplemented with activities that are meaningful and hands-on.
My Project
The material I chose will supplement our Social Studies lessons. Students will have a basic globe to use as a reference. I also ordered a landforms and mapping resource box in addition to map molding kits so that the students can make 3D versions of maps. They will label their maps with appropriate vocabulary. These maps can be used to compliment many lessons as the students learn about their history. These materials will tap into students' kinesthetic learning styles.
Your donation will help provide special needs students with the hands-on activities they need as they learn geography and history.
The materials will supplement the Social Studies curriculum and provide a fun and meaningful opportunity to recall important vocabulary.
