My Students
Help my budding young authors and illustrators print and publish their very first book in Kindergarten!
Our urban school is in a high poverty area and serves many low income families and students who are English language learners.
The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free/reduced price school lunch. My energetic, diverse class of Kindergarteners represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. My students are: Latino, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, African American, Russian, mixed heritages- Korean/Caucasian, Filipino/Cambodian, and Filipino/Latino.
My Project
In the writing center, my students will write their stories. During their writing process, the students will each have a file folder organized in a file box to hold their work in progress. After revising their rough drafts, students will type their story and have it printed in our new classroom printer. They will create a fabulous title and illustrate the cover which will accompany their story. We hope to write and illustrate whole class books, individual books, and picture books throughout the school year. This will motivate the students, to write, share, read, and have their own story published in the comfort of their own classroom! What a magical journey this will be for all of us!
My young students will experience their own personal writing journey process through writing, editing, typing, illustrating, and printing/publishing their writing and stories.
They can read and reread and share their creations with their classmates, friends, and family. What a treasure it would be to have each student be proud of their own stories and have it published for them in their own classroom. When each child is given the opportunity to experience, the results are limitless!
