My Students
My first grade class is comprised of 21 eager learners. They are kind, caring, and love helping others. They are each unique and very special and I go out of my way each day to remind them of that.
My first graders come from a rough area and go through more than what most kids do, but they do not let that stop them from working hard toward their goals. They love to learn and have learned to persevere through tough times.
My Project
In first grade we read A LOT! We read at least 4 books a day and we love to hear books read aloud. While our class has a lot of great books, we don't have a lot of books with characters of color.
Our class is comprised of students of all colors and backgrounds but the books we have don't have characters that represent us! When students are able to see themselves in the books they are reading, they are more interested and engaged in the story.
We would love to be able to connect to the characters in the books we read for morning meeting and during reading time.
