Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

During Physical Education, students benefit from our Team Building and Fitness units greatly, but tell me every week, "We should play Volleyball!". The students at our Academy work very hard and are especially focused. Each student auditions to be able to attend the Academy and 50% of the school day is dedicated to one of their majors including, Visual Arts, Dance, Music, and Theater.

Having an arts major provides the students with many ways to be self-expressed, but at the same time there is a lot of pressure to perform academically and artistically.

Physical Education is a place for students to decompress. I believe that is why I get 100% participation everyday.

Volleyball is a lifelong recreational activity as well as an opportunity to participate in a team sport. The goal for this project is to purchase Volleyball standards so that all students in the school can have access to social connection through the game or the sport. Given that our High School populates other school's Volleyball teams, I hope to start our first Academy Sports team!
