Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I school located CA. 100% of the student body receives free breakfast and free lunch. Our student body is mostly Hispanic/Latino 69% and Black/African American 15.2%. The student body is 87.5% socioeconomically disadvantaged, and a large percentage of them have experienced trauma which has impacted their mental/emotional health. The goal for receiving the requested items is to get students proper running shoes to help them go the distance while training for races and road running throughout our beautiful city.
My Project
Our city has so much to offer, yet most of our students are confined to a one-mile radius. Our students need shoes and snacks to propel and replenish their bodies. There is a great sense of accomplishment when completing a 5K (3.1 mile) run, and our students need to feel accomplished outside of the classroom as well as inside of the classroom.
Students that “RUN Our City” will benefit physically, mentally, and socially through running.
The camaraderie of a run group, the encouragement of others, and the aerobic activity will reduce stress and hopefully provide students a mechanism to cope with the daily challenges they experience.
