We Really Need Ms. Ling Ling

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

There is a need for Otis school students to be more aware of what they eat and how they use their bodies for energy. Fitness boosts the immune system. I teach a general second grade classroom. Many of my students eat too much and get very little exercise. My second grade students need to make our school more aware of the benefits that nutrition and exercise plays to promote a healthy student body. I would like Ms. Ling Ling to come and teach Ribbon Dancing to my students to help them become healthier and fit. Ribbon Dancing has been known to promote bone density, improve balance, help students focus and speed up your metabolism. Once we have been instructed on the basics of Ribbon Dancing, I plan to use our experiences to perform a Chinese Opera on stage with my second grade class and their first grade buddies. We will make costumes, learn the ribbon dance and perform the basic movements to Chinese Opera Music that I recently purchased from China. The Ribbon Dance instruction will help my students become healthy and fit. Students will be able to boost their metabolism and strengthen their bones. Ms. Ling Ling, the Ribbon Dance Instructor, will come and demonstrate exercises that will show how different moves can boost metabolism, improve balance and strengthen muscles. She said that it would be easy to perform on stage after practicing the basic moves. Students will write about their experiences after they practice with Ms. Ling Ling. We will use some of the second grade stories that the children write in our performance. A booth will be set up to promote good nutrition, Ribbon Dancing and the healthy mind. I want this instruction for our students so they will learn healthy habits at an early age. The earlier a student starts taking care of the body, the more benefits they will reap as they mature. Students will perform better on tests and their scores will soar. They will feel good about themselves and when you feel good you have a positive attitude and you can deal with the challenges you have in everyday life. These students are our future and we want to make them strong, healthy and wise.
