My Students

My students are motivated by their dreams. The 12 and 13 year-olds in my classroom yearn for success and opportunities. These students ask critical questions about the world around them and why things are not equitable in our society. They see and are impacted by the violence in our communities. Summer vacations don't provide much solace because their parents fear for their child's safety. Regardless of the social and economic burdens that follow my students, they work hard because they see glimmers of a better tomorrow.

My Project

Please help fund our classroom library. Your donation will help our class attain many highly acclaimed books which have been known to be challenged and even banned. Books like "Catcher in the Rye" and "The Kite Runner" are classics that will foster critical thinking and also lead to higher order thinking skills.

These banned books have realistic characters and situations that students can relate to, which make them a powerful read.

My students deserve books that have diverse characters and intriguing plots. Many believe that censoring books is somehow helping children yet, it does not. These books teach lessons and build understanding of the world around us.
