This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When my students and I said our goodbyes one Friday in mid-March, little did we know that it was going to be for the remainder of the school year. Many went home with a school issued laptop computer and a folder of worksheets that we thought would last for the time needed.
Boy, were we wrong!
We were definitely not prepared for the events that were to come. As an educator in a low income, highly transient urban area of Miami-Dade County my kiddos and I are normally faced with many challenges and we are accustomed to jump whatever hurdles are encountered as I address my learners' educational needs.
Regardless of our current challenges though, the majority of my students are very determined and eager to succeed. In spite of their personal experiences, most of my students are very active, enthusiastic learners who possess a thirst for knowledge. So, we persevered and are now engaged in distance learning and video conferencing through Zoom in order to accomplish our educational goals.
My Project
Needless to say, we are living in very uncertain times and as a result my kiddos have had to transition to learning from home. While it is not ideal, we are all doing our best to keep the learning going and to stay connected as a class family!
As I began to transform my home office into an appealing classroom environment, I realized that my home monitor does not have an integrated speaker system and that the outdated computer speaker, mouse and keyboard that I had been using does not work for daily communication with my students.
My students and I communicate daily through Zoom. This provides an adequate form of face to face communication, however the limited supplies that I brought home to deliver instruction have nearly been depleted. Our project gets me the materials needed in order to deliver instruction and properly communicate with my kiddos as we engage in distance learning. The speaker, in conjunction with the charging cables, wireless keyboard and mouse will be used to properly engage in online teaching and learning from any area of the office!
