This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is located in the heart of the inner city in Pittsburgh, PA! My classroom is a lively life skills classroom servicing 9 students with special needs. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing they all have in common; they all come to school to learn and have fun!
Although my students have intellectual delays, there is always a way to reach each and every individual student.
As a teacher, this is my #1 goal. I am always looking for new and creative ways to keep my students engaged in learning.
My Project
My students are working on improving their independent work skills. In the classroom there are a variety of hands-on materials to keep the students engaged and learning. The students follow a schedule each morning to complete their independent work! They love to check their schedule and see which fun activity it may be such as opening locks with the correct key, sorting and matching socks, counting coins, sorting food orders and much much more!
These materials will help to continue to make the learning fun and add a variety of new activities for the students.
Working independently is a skill that all students need to learn. These skills will help the students to one day get a job and be an activity member in his/her community.
