Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are scientists, historians, mathematicians, engineers, analysts, economists, athletes, and authors. The opportunities that are ahead for my students are endless! It's my responsibility to help them see their possibilities and reach their potential.

Over 75% of our students receive a free or reduced-price lunch, meaning it is up to us as teachers to provide much more than a day's teaching.

We serve a government housing complex that is known for having the top gang activity in our district. Many students don't have books at home to read, or even a space to regularly do their homework. This does not define them, though. My students are hard workers. They are explorers. Responsibility and creativity are daily activities for each of them. They work towards creating a future for themselves that will take them on a different path than the one they have lived so far. I can't change a student's past, but together, we can change their future.

My Project

Remember when you were in school and it rained and that meant no playground time? Nobody likes that! So, how do we change that? Through the use of skillful play, that's how! These reading and math game sets from Lakeshore Learning give children the opportunity to learn through play, rather than independent of it. The literacy games focus on reading comprehension including theme, main idea, vocabulary, etc. While the math games target numbers and operations, money, and fractions. Students will also work on cooperative play, sportsmanship, and collaboration with each of these games!

Indoor recess and stations time can be full of fun, laughter, and learning especially with these reading and math games libraries and Solar System puzzle!

These skill sets and games will be the perfect addition to our classroom and will ensure that no one dreads rainy day recess again!
