My Students

My students are all below level readers. Imagine wanting to read and having to overcome this obstacle every time you pick a book to enjoy.

My students range from first grade to fifth grade in an ESE classroom.

We come from a Title 1 school which serves a diverse population in Florida. With the high poverty level of my students, my classroom may provide their only reading experience. Even though all my students are below level readers, they all share in the enjoyment and discovery of books.

My Project

Weekly Readers will enrich the learning experience of my students. They will help build and reinforce science and social studies skills, teach new vocabulary, and make learning fun. Every issue is filled with vibrant photos and nonfiction text to support our reading themes. TIME For Kids weekly classroom news magazine will motivate my students to read! With a wide range of real-world topics kids love to learn about. TIME For Kids builds reading and writing skills will easily integrate across all of our curriculum, including social studies, science and math. Scholastic News will engage my students with high interest informational texts on today's current events. My students will learn about the major issues in this year's campaign and how they relate to kids. Scholastic News will explain our government and the democratic process. Weekly Readers, TIME for Kids, and Scholastic News will make a great addition to our reading center.
