In the art room we create A LOT of trash. We do our best to reduce our waste by recycling art supplies, papers, and using plastic cups and plates for painting. These small steps make the art room more sustainable and also teach the students how they can help the environment by using reusable supplies instead of ones we throw away after one use.
Having towels in the art room instead of paper ones will allow for the students to reduce the amount of paper trash thrown away in the art room tremendously.
With the addition of a basket for students they will be able to fold and cleanup their art areas all on their own. Giving autonomy to the students will not only help them gain confidence, but hopefully translate to how they can reduce their waste use at home.
For any paper that we can recycle, the recycle bin will be a focal spot to remind students to recycle the paper they don't need rather than throwing it away. I plan on saving our paper and we will create recycled papers as an art project with the paper we would have put in the trash. Making art out of our recycled paper will be a great earth day lesson for the artists.
