We Need to See and Hear Our Teacher!

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in an underserved part of San Francisco. Many of the students are children of immigrants or live in the neighborhood's low-income housing development.

Though their families often have fewer resources, that doesn't stop my students' desire and ability to learn and achieve!

My students are curious, funny, sweet kids who can't wait to learn in third-grade. They are eagerly learning cursive, mastering their multiplication facts, reading chapter books, investigating live crayfish in science, making stop-motion videos about Native American life, typing up their stories on Chromebooks, and so much more.

My Project

At the beginning of this school year with distance learning, I have been building our classroom community with my students from behind the computer. My students are awesome, eager to learn and engage! It's as if we are in class together in-person, with Morning Meetings, classroom jobs, and partner and small group work. However some things are harder to replicate with me teaching at home.

As we start learning science (forces and magnets, then animal adaptations, in 3rd grade), I want to be able to show the kids physical demonstrations and detailed models, which a document camera with focusing and zoom-in features will display.

It will also capture the daily movements of our class pet, Snowball the hamster, that my students love checking up on and watching! (He is living with me for now until we return to the classroom.) Also, because I live in a small apartment with other people, wireless earbuds are a necessity, so I can continue to hear and speak to my students as we get up and do movement breaks and P.E. activities online.

Please help me provide these experiences for my students, to make distance learning more like in-person learning!
