We Need to Move It, Move It

My students need and have asked for Hokki stools, under desk bicycles and chair bands so they can get exercise as they are sitting at their desks learning.

I want to encourage my students to exercise daily.

My 22 students are a very diverse group of great second graders in Georgia. Some of my students have special needs, and most of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Several of my students are diagnosed with ADHA and ADD. But, they are all wonderful and so eager to learn. We work in various settings throughout the day like whole group, small group and independent work. Our school is an inner city school and in a high poverty area.

My Project

My students need to move all day, not just at recess. They will increase their activity time by using the Hokki stools and under desk bicycles while engaged in academic activities.

My students have asked why we don't have Hokki stools like they do in the media center.

So I am asking for the Hokki stools my students have asked for. They love to go to the media center just to sit and read on the Hokki stools. The Hokki stools allow students to move while sitting still. So to increase their physical activity time from 30 minutes of planned recess, my students can use the Hooki stools and under desk bicycles during reading and math. By rotating students through the Hokki stools and bicycles, their physical activity time should grow as much as 60 minutes per day.

So because they asked for the stools, I am asking for the stools as well as under desk bicycles and desk bands to provide an outlet for their endless energy. The Hokki stools and under desk bicycles will help my very busy students be able to focus as they move their bodies in a constructive way.
