We Need to move it, Move It, MOVE IT!

My students need Step-A-Logs and Stepping Domes that allow them to keep moving during cold or rainy weather, when they can't go outside!

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is a Pre-K through eighth-grade traditional school that offers various programs to support students' social and academic success. It is the first program to offer instruction in Mandarin Chinese. Students in grades K-4 through eight receive Mandarin language instruction for thirty minutes each day. This coursework also increases students' global understanding of various Asian cultures and their influence on the global community. Our school also houses the International Newcomer Center (INC), a program that serves recently arrived middle school refugee students. In this program, students learn academic content while simultaneously acquiring the English language.

Each day, I start out with a hug, handshake or high-five from every one of my students, and greet them by their name, so they feel welcomed and valued as an individual and member of my class.

My students will break your heart with their life stories, yet bring a smile to your face and brighten your day. They are filled with a spirit like no other, despite any odds already against them, what they wear, or how they learn. Many come to school not only hungry for a good breakfast but also a hunger for learning, stability and a structured day!

My Project

Kindergarten today, is much different than in years past. It has become much more academic focused. Indoor recess not only means indoor recess for my class, but the entire school; and that means not everyone can utilize the gym. Recess is an important part of the day, but when it is too cold or rainy to get out for our two recesses, students still need a way to release their energy in a healthy, fun and positive way!

If these lively, little learners are expected to engage in more academic activities, then having recess equipment that can be easily utilized in the classroom on cold winter or rainy days is a necessity!

Having stepping logs, balance domes and other active games that are an easy set-up and take down in our classroom, give my students an opportunity to move, engage with their peers and promote a healthy lifestyle, even on bad weather days!
