FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $649
This project is fully funded
At our Pre-K through 8th grade school (located in an impoverished section of New York City)approximately 87 percent of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
Our Tech Club students are inventive and have been making video "booktalks"(an early childhood book is read, illustrations are shown and sound effects are heard for the students to follow along) using a Canon mini DV camera and an apple iPod that was so generously donated two years ago. The tech students feel a real sense of accomplishment when they complete a booktalk with background music which is added through the use of an apple ipod.
My new English Language Learner tech students would benefit greatly from learning how to use the Apple iPod from their peers. We are not allowed to download music directly, but we do have the use of iTunes on the Apple computers within the school. With another iPod, more students can be taught to download sounds and edit them easily by other tech students. The students would learn to import music and different sound effects, for example a sound for the turning of pages, and add them to our booktalks. This would allow the students a chance to use the iPod and the Apple computer to create just the right background music and sound effects to produce a really "professional" finished project. Ultimately, I would hope we might be able to show some of our booktalks to the entire school.
Additionally, the students could use this equipment to create special presentations, displaying photos with added background music, to be shown at the moving up ceremonies, and we would also like to add music to our PowerPoint presentations which we will share with the parents and family members at PTA evening meetings.
These student-centered presentations offer the children at our school a chance to continue to learn more about new technology and the chance to see themselves as participants in the broader world of media. We would very much like to add more types of music and sounds to our student created video booktalks but we need another Apple iPod. To complete this task we need an Apple iPod with a 2 year Applecare extended warranty.
Thank you.
