My students need 3 ring binders with organizers so they can learn to be organized, create a portfolio and see their improvement over the school year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students need to see they are improving, if they don't see progress they won't see the point in trying to excel in school. As students who are At Risk and in a crime and poverty riddled city, it's my job not only to teach them but to show them they CAN improve their situation.
My students are minorities living in a city where 38.6% of families are living below the poverty line.
They are intelligent, street smart, and because of their environment outside school, they can be difficult to motivate when it comes to learning.
I teach at an Alternative school that provides students with a second chance. Instead of dropping out, we take the students who were kicked out of their traditional high school and teach them social skills, life skills, and academics. We are teaching them that there is more out there than the streets and they can do well in school and go to college.
My Project
The requested binders, dividers and sheet protectors will help my students learn to be organized, but more importantly, they will see the gradual progress they are making. Binders will be used to keep writing assignments, notes and assessments, so students can keep track of their work and reflect on their progress.
For events like parent-teacher conferences, I will instruct the students to pick assignments they are proud of and put them in a sheet protector with a post it explaining why they are proud of that work. This will help them reflect on their learning and feel pride, something most of my students do not feel often enough.
My students frequently ask me for reassurance, and I know they would feel more confident if they had a portfolio of their work to see their improvement.
Seeing their efforts are paying off, and being able to show them off to our school mentors, would motivate them to come to school and put more effort into their education.
