This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Mid-year grade level assignment changes are always challenging. Not having ample materials to manage a K/1 combination class makes the year even more challenging.

I have a lively bunch of kindergarteners and first graders that enjoy hands-on activities, and kinesthetic lessons.

My students come from a low-income neighborhood, many of whom are native Spanish speakers. Our school is a Title I, 100% free lunch school.

My Project

My school district has just rationed paper to barely enough paper to photocopy homework for my students. In addition to homework, I need to make copies of weekly spelling words, unit vocabulary, and fluency tracking sheets to keep the classroom running smoothly and lines of communication open with parents. Binders are needed to organize the new language arts curriculum materials and homework assignments for my first grade team. Other items such as tape, Expo markers, and permanent markers are needed to post projects and fix small errors, and for students to show answers to dictation and mathematics questions.

This project will impact my students by providing them with the bare necessities needed to keep our classroom running smoothly.

These materials will ensure that my students are able to take notes and vocabulary materials home to their families, and also to continue the learning process through weekly spelling and homework assignments. These materials will help my students to be responsible scholars.
