This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My amazing students are from Grand Prairie, Texas and we are a Title I school. We are a part of an innovative district of choice which means our students have many choices in the school they attend. I am proud they chose us.

Although many of my students have daily challenges such as poverty, reading below grade level, and being English Language Learners, they are still creative, eager and inquisitive about learning.

Having these students challenges me as an educator, to be more sensitive and to think outside of the box and I am thankful for them.

My Project

As a writing teacher, my students go through a large amount of paper and pencils each day. I have been providing them with paper and pencils daily because the majority lack the basic supplies needed for school. We have already gone through a refurbished electric pencil sharpener and are in need of a heavy duty pencil sharpener to meet the needs of my forty-four writers. At the moment, we only have a handheld pencil sharpener for everyone to use.

I know my students and I will make due if the supplies are not provided, but I want my students to do more than make due.

I want them to thrive. By providing these basic supplies you will be investing in the lives of my students and our community and we will be truly grateful.
